Selective breeding increased the length of those 'beaks' to impractical lengths (and purely for aesthetic reasons). It's hard for them to survive outside of a domesticated environment; the only plant life they can get their jaws around in the local wilderness is the coniferous flora that grows on steep mountain slopes. |
